John Cox - Candidate for Governor, 2018

JOHN COX'S POLICY AGENDA

Once the land of promise and opportunity, California today is on the brink of financial insolvency, thanks to the failed policies of the Liberal Democrats and the timidity of “me-too” Republicans.
  • We have the highest income tax rate in the nation, and rank dead last in friendliness to business.
  • We have the highest poverty rate in the country.
  • Our unfunded public pension liability is double that of any other state and we haven’t even begun to fund our huge public retiree health care liability.
Our regressive taxes are hurting the middle class, with the highest state sales tax, and outrageously high traffic fines and utility rates,
AND if you felt under-taxed before, the California Legislature recently passed an incredible 52 Billion Dollar gas tax increase.
It’s time to fight back, not by trying to out-spend and out-tax the Democrats, but by taking our government back.

The only possible way to rescue California from a likely financial melt-down is to unshackle small business, roll back oppressive regulations and focus on economic growth.

I’m a businessman, not a politician. I have a 35 year conservative record and have a plan to end the corrupting influence of special interest money in Sacramento. We will clean out the barn and I need your help to do that!

Thomas Krouse
Candidate for State Assembly District 76, 2018

Common Sense Solutions

My name is Thomas Krouse, and I am committed to making your voice heard in Sacramento.

Our government should focus on the priorities, principles, and values that are shared by the broad majority of citizens, not on issues and self-generated problems designed to score political points and to raise campaign contributions.
I am committed to fighting to protect local control in North County which is under threat by dysfunctional 'one size fits all' government initiatives. I also pledge to oppose future tax increases as long as government continues to spend taxpayers' money so ineffectively, inefficiently, and unwisely.

Above all, California should be focused on job creation and sustainable economic growth because a strong economy is essential to maintaining focus on our remaining priorities.

If you share my vision, I urge you to connect with me and help make it happen! Together, we can make a meaningful difference -- for our families, our community, and our country.

Kristin Gaspar
Candidate for the 49th Congressional District, 2018

Supervisor Kristin Gaspar is Chairwoman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. She is the youngest woman ever elected to the board. Prior to becoming a Supervisor, Gaspar was an Encinitas City Council Member and went on to become the first Mayor ever elected in that city. She and her husband Paul, have three children. Kristin was born and raised in North County and is proud to represent her hometown community.

In her first year as Supervisor, Gaspar teamed up with Supervisor Dianne Jacob to launch an initiative that will help the growing number of seniors with dementia who end up in crisis. The effort is an outgrowth of The Alzheimer’s Project, the county-led initiative to find a cure and help families struggling with the disease.

Chairwoman Gaspar also co-initiated an investment of more than $400,000 to install five additional cameras in key fire-prone areas around the county.  This will also boost the wireless network’s capacity and capability, ensuring first responders have real-time information that enhances fire protection.

Before being elected Supervisor of District Three, Gaspar was CFO of a physical therapy company. She is very involved in her children’s schools and extra-curricular activities and serves as a pop warner cheerleading coach.

Tony Rackauckas
Current Incumbent
District Attorney of Orange County, 2018

Message from Tony
It has been a privilege to serve as your elected District Attorney since 1998 and I want to personally share with you my decision to seek re-election to this office in 2018. As I seek re-election, I will be running on the strong track record of our office where I oversee and am responsible for the performance of hundreds of attorneys, investigators and professional staff who work tirelessly to ensure the administration of justice in our county. The following are some highlights of our team’s accomplishments.

TAKING ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING
The OCDA’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit, along with its partners in the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force, has been universally and nationally recognized as the “best practice model.” Since its inception four years ago,
the PERP (Prosecution, Education, Resources and Publicity) plan has yielded 200 felony convictions
and sent 70% to state prison: 6 of them for life and one for 233 years.

DEVELOPING AND USING DNA TECHNOLOGY TO SOLVE CRIME
The OCDA is the only prosecutor’s office in the nation to have developed its own database of DNA to solve violent and property crimes. It possesses a Rapid DNA machine that allows us to obtain a prison conviction within 50 days of a crime.
The DNA program has led to convictions of unsolved crimes and obtaining prison sentences for those convicted.

Starting with military service, then as a social worker, then as a line prosecutor, and ultimately as a Superior Court Judge before being elected District Attorney, I have worked to serve the residents of Orange County for most of my adult life. To this day I continue to wake up each day eager to serve and with your support I look forward to another 4 years.

Todd Spitzer
Candidate for District Attorney of Orange County, 2018

Todd Spitzer is an Orange County Supervisor and former California State Assembly
I am inspired and proud to dedicate my career to public service as an Orange County Supervisor and former California State Assembly Member. As District Attorney I pledge to always uphold the rule of law, put people’s safety first and work tirelessly to make certain justice is served for victims and their families. We must restore faith and trust in our law enforcement and justice system.

As a former prosecutor and current Chairman of the Orange County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, I know what it takes to get justice for victims and work with the community to solve crimes and ensure violent felons stay behind bars. But we also must work to stop crime before it starts. As a former high school teacher and School Board Trustee and business owner, I know that solutions to complex crime problems begins by solving critical issues like homelessness, our kids’ broken education system and ensuring that our economy is growing to provide job opportunities for everyone...read more

Featuring Speaker
Ruth Weiss

Vice President, Co-Founder Election Integrity Project California, Inc. (EIPCa)

Ruth’s father was a U.S. History teacher, who taught using primary documents to instill a deep understanding of this country’s real roots and purpose. As a result, she grew up with a healthy respect for America and everything that has made her exceptional.
As a Reagan Conservative and a Tea Party Member, she is proud to have attended the first 9-12 march on DC, the first National Tea Party Convention in Nashville, TN, the Glenn Beck American Revival training in Phoenix, and the Glenn Beck “Restoring Honor” event on the National Mall.
After retiring from 34 years of teaching high school English and Spanish, Ruth began to search for a new way of making a difference. She believes, as every American should, that voting in every election is the greatest privilege we have as American citizens, and the single most important act that we will ever do for ourselves and our posterity. Stories from around the nation of miscounted votes, of missing or miraculously “found” boxes of votes, of dead people mysteriously coming to life and voting on election day, etc. have become more than a joke to Ruth and a growing number of Americans.  If our election process is subverted by error, apathy, carelessness and fraud, then we are robbed of the significance and purpose of the great privilege of voting, and that leads directly to the demise of our Republic. Through great consideration and prayer, Ruth came to understand that being involved with the Election Integrity Project would be her chosen way to serve her country, and she began working with them as San Diego County Coordinator in February of 2011, just two months after the company’s founding.
Those “stories” have become more plentiful and more frightening year by year. The Republic of California is now in great danger of being “lost” permanently to the socialist, globalist oligarchy now in power.   This transformation has occurred primarily because our electoral system has been corrupted and hijacked. The citizens of our state must regain their God-given power to self-govern through the right to fairly elect those who will govern us.
In March of 2017, Ruth Weiss and Linda Paine began the effort to found a nonprofit organization to continue the work of the Election Integrity Project. On July 21, 2017, with the help of returning EIP Board member Ellen Gifford and some pro-bono assistance from several attorneys, the Election Integrity Project California, Inc. (EIPCa) was officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) California public benefit nonprofit corporation.        Ruth is currently serving as EIPCa’s Vice President, Director of Education and Training, and Director of the Southern Region of California, consisting of San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Featuring Speaker
Diane Harkey

Chairwoman of the State Board of Equalization

Diane Harkey was elected in November 2014 to represent the State Board of Equalization's Fourth District. Harkey recently served three terms in the California State Assembly representing the 73rd District encompassing south Orange County.

As Chairwoman of the State Board of Equalization, Diane capitalizes on her private and public sector experience to promote the rights and interests of all taxpayers.  Harkey advocates for policies that support job creation in the private sector, improve California's state budget outlook, and reduce the burden of complying with government audits and various tax regulations.

Harkey also serves as Chair of the Business Taxes Committee, the regulatory body at the BOE charged with writing regulations implementing California's business tax regulations.

In her first year at the Board, Harkey successfully pushed for changes to provide clarity on 1031 exchanges in real estate transactions. Her office solved over 400 constituent cases in 2015 and has held many successful events educating taxpayers on Proposition 13, California's manufacturing exemption and many areas of state tax law.

Harkey believes that California must establish new policies that ensure future improvements in transportation, water, and other necessities, so our state can retain its place as one of the top-ranking economies in the world. Harkey works directly with other Board Members, the Governor's Administration, and the State Legislature to make California golden once again.

Harkey graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine and enjoyed a successful 30-year career in corporate finance and banking. Working in good and bad economic climates with individuals, small business owners, and leaders of publicly-traded companies helped form the pragmatic business perspective that she brings to the Board of Equalization.

Harkey won her election to the Board of Equalization with over 61% of the vote and is proud to represent 9.5 million constituents in the counties of Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial, and the southernmost portion of San Bernardino County.

Also Featuring Speaker
Carl DeMaio

Chairman, Reform California – Senior Fellow, The Performance Institute Host,
The Carl DeMaio Show, AM-600 KOGO

Carl DeMaio knows how to reform government -
and he has built an entire business and a political career on making broken government programs work again for the people.

At the age of 23, Carl DeMaio started his first company -- the Performance Institute -- to provide training and consulting solutions to help financially-troubled government entities cut costs while improving performance. DeMaio turned his business success into a life-long crusade to improve the
performance, transparency, efficiency and accountability of government at
all levels.

DeMaio won a seat on the San Diego City Council in 2008 -- and helped turn
that city around from the brink of bankruptcy through his "Roadmap to Recovery" reform agenda.

DeMaio is now tackling state-wide fiscal reform policy in his new role as Chairman of Reform California. DeMaio is also continuing to speak out on local issues, as co-host of his daily news and talk show in KOGO-AM 600.

Turning Around San Diego - Author of the Pension Reform Initiative

DeMaio’s work began in a “watchdog” role, as he helped uncover the fiscal
crisis in the City of San Diego. After years of financial crisis, draconian service cuts, crumbling roads and infrastructure, and little action by city leaders on a host of pressing problems, DeMaio stepped forward with a comprehensive "Reform Agenda" to fix the problems.

DeMaio advanced reform through a variety of ballot measures – gaining voter approval of measures to subject city services to “competitive outsourcing,”
ban discriminatory union-only hiring deals known as Project Labor Agreements, and converting the city to a Strong Mayor form of governance.

While on the City Council, DeMaio led the effort to cut red tape on small businesses, reform the city’s contracting processes to expedite infrastructure projects, and enact some of the toughest “Sunshine Law” open government requirements in the nation.
In 2012, DeMaio crafted and led a citizens campaign to qualify and pass the “Comprehensive Pension Reform” Initiative – the first-of-its kind measure to switch San Diego from a Defined Benefit Pension Plan to a 401(k) retirement program. DeMaio’s measure also figured out how to legally reform “vested” pension benefits for existing employees by freezing pensionable pay and
ending abuses such as pension spiking.

Overcoming Childhood Adversity to Achieve Success in Business

Carl DeMaio is no stranger to adversity. Carl's mother passed away two weeks after his father abandoned the family. At age 14, Carl was taken in by Jesuits and given the opportunity to earn his way to Georgetown University. DeMaio worked two jobs through college, completing his degree early.

By age 30, DeMaio had founded two successful businesses. In 1998, he
founded the
Performance Institute and built the organization into the
largest government reform think tank in the nation and the leading authority
on performance-based management in government, law enforcement, non-profits and schools.

In 2003, DeMaio founded the American Strategic Management Institute
(ASMI), which provides training and education in corporate financial and performance management. In late 2007, DeMaio sold both of his companies – though he continues to serve as a “Senior Fellow” advising on policy issues.
