Speaker Update for March 2021!
PictureLisa Davis, CUSD Trustee

Lisa Davis
Trustee for the Capistrano Unified School District

My knowledge and experience as an educator, mother, and active volunteer in the PTSA and community provide me a rational voice and vision that benefits our students, parents and teachers. As your board trustee, I will be receptive and responsive to all constituents.

I do not make the decision to run for this position lightly as I know the dedication this role will require. But I feel my life experiences, family values, and community involvement have been preparing me to serve in this capacity for decades. My husband served in the United States Marine Corp and completed a tour in Iraq and Saudi Arabia during the First Gulf war. We had only been married for six weeks when he left for nine months. The insight and experience I gained during this time taught me the importance of putting others above self, and that all citizens have a civic duty to serve where they are best suited. Through various leadership roles I have held from serving as my high school's ASB president to later running a summer camp for over 200 girls, I've learned that governing is anything but easy, but it can be done if people are willing to listen to each other, work together, and find common ground.

I have tremendous appreciation for our teachers and educators.  As a mom and teacher, I have true clarity on what is actually working in our current school system and what is broken.  Families may falsely assume that meaningful change is unattainable.  Yet I know that with strong leadership, innovative and logical solutions can and must be implemented.  Our students deserve nothing less than unwavering courage and commitment to stand as a voice of reason during these precarious times.  It is my pledge to families to not just hear you, but to listen intently to your concerns and ideas and take action.  Together, we can transform education, put students first, demonstrate fiscal responsibility and implement responsible oversight measures.

A board member's responsibility is to openly communicate and work with all members of the community, including CUSD staff, students and families.  My strength is in my ability to hear and count every voice. Every perspective matters and I pledge to increase participation and understanding.  Ultimately, our schools are here to serve the educational needs of children.  As politics and soundbites monopolize headlines and create confusion, it becomes even more imperative to keep student success as the guiding principle for any and all decisions.  The diversity of CUSD is our strength and as we embrace and educate on matters of tolerance, kindness, and respect, we grow together and empower all students to achieve their potential.

The time for change is now.  Mapping out a long-term vision is vital for meaningful change.  I have a clear plan centered on priorities that put our children's needs first.

Leigh Dundas

In this time of unprecedented encroachment into our civil liberties, renowned human rights attorney Leigh Dundas - and her nonprofit organization Advocates for Citizens' Rights - are moving swiftly to address issues involving mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing, as well as quarantine and contact tracing measures.   Leigh Dundas began her career in the early 90s, representing Fortune 500 companies in multimillion-dollar legal battles in the courtroom - before transitioning over the last decade to working with nonprofits dedicated to combating the child sex slavery epidemic in Southeast Asia.

In March of this year, she took the lessons she learned battling industry behemoths in White collar courtrooms - and fighting Mafia syndicates in the trenches of third world countries - and began using them to turn the tide on the human rights atrocities our governments have been deploying on a peaceful population... under the guise of a pandemic that is no more fatal than the average flu.

Please join me in welcoming Freedom fighter Leigh Dundas to the stage

SCARWF Meet the Candidates General Meeting and Luncheon
Held October 14, 2020 at San Juan Hills Golf Club

San Clemente Area Republican Women Federated held their General Meeting at San Juan Hills Golf Club on October 14th and invited the following  candidates  to address the members as to their vision, position and provided time for questions.

Gene James, who is running for re-election for San Clemente City Council supports our Law Enforcement, is a Taxpayer Watchdog who continues to ensure our tax dollars are spent wisely. Gene is pro-business and encouraged city management to develop an anti-human trafficking ordinance. He voted against a forced Regional Homeless Shelter and against Short Term Rentals outside approved zones.

Bill Hart, candidate for City Council, whose priorities are to make sure that the City is a supportive partner with the local merchants as they fight to survive and recover from the COVID crises. Be frugal with the City budget during these lean times and protect our tax base. Fight hard for increased Public Safety, a regional approach to homelessness, no Toll Road, bringing back a local hospital and the removal of San Onofre nuclear waste.

Aaron T. Washington, candidate for City Council, is a 35 year Navy veteran. He has dedicated his life to serving his country in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Giving to his community, working with both Boys Town of America and local Homeless Shelters, as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the San Clemente Men’s Golf Club. He stated that he is dedicated to changing the mindset and leadership that has led our city to run deficits and triple its legal bills to over $10.5 million in just 5 years.

Tyler Boden, candidate City Council, Short Term stated that he would work to unite San Clemente over a shared vision to create a more efficient and community-driven city government. He want to protect our children’s future, our coastline and the quality of life for all our residents.

Steven Knoblock, Business Owner/Attorney is a candidate seeking office of City Council, Short Term. His primary goals are to enhance our City’s financial security and protect our quality of life. He states that he is humbled to have sponsored the words “In God We Trust” on our city logo. He will continue to protect our open spaces and oppose a toll road through San Clemente. He will ensure the finest, fully funded police and firefighting forces.

Lisa Davis, candidate for CUSD School Board was our final speaker. She stated that she is the candidate with the best plan for our childre0n’s future. It is time for children to go back to school with exceptional education, safety, stability and transparency.
